Return link performance, DVB-RCS2

Return link performance in DVB-RCS2 template provides use case to build campaigns to simulate radio resource management (RRM) performance in return (RTN) link with one beam only. Modulation and channel coding according to DVB-RCS2 used for traffic transmission. On/Off traffic model is used to generate application level traffic. Template is implemented by the SNS3 simulator.

Essential pre-conditions

  • Super frame configuration for sequence 0: Configuration_3

  • Super frame config type: ConfigType_2

Configurable options

  • Beam selection: 1 - 72

  • Enabling external fading input traces reading in list mode

  • Number of the UTs for selected beam

  • On/Off times, packet size and interval for On/Off traffic

  • Frame size [Hz]


  • Random access: OFF, Slotted aloha, CDRSA

  • Constant service rate for DA service 0 [kbps]

  • Enabling FCA for super frame allocator

  • Target duration for super frame sequence

  • Enabling on demand evaluation and evaluation interval selection for request manager (RM)

  • Options for beam scheduler:

    • Control slot enabling and interval selection

    • C/NO estimation mode and window selection

    • Interval for periodic scheduling

  • ACM enabling and default id selection for wave form

  • Default control randomization interval selection

  • Random access average normalized offered load measurement window size selection

  • RA service 0 options:

    • Maximum unique payload per block

    • Maximum consecutive block accessed

    • Minimum idle block

    • Back off time, probability and high load probability

    • Average normalized offered load threshold
